Update, January 28, 2025

Rick Retro’s Realm, Behind the Scenes #17: 51 Reviews to do, 42 to re-do, and lots of Sub to stack.

I was planning to do one last look at the 51+7 Dark Whimsy films today, comparing which genres show up amongst them most. And maybe at some point I’ll compile that tally, but I decided not to do it right now... it would take a lot of time and there are better ways to spend that time, like getting back to writing reviews for you!

It’s been a while since I updated you on my progress. I’ve finished up two big steps in the last week, with all of the Reference Rundowns published and all of the scoresheets completed for when I’m reviewing a work. It turns out I’m using four scoresheets plus one template per review.

I spent most of yesterday re-reading Dickens' A Christmas Carol., trying out my improved reviewing system, scoresheets and all, and then updating the review. So far, so good.

I’ll keep re-reviewing and updating the older reviews and track the progress here. Two down, 41 to go: Reviews #3-#43.

And it’s one thing to update old reviews, but how well will it work when creating a new review from scratch?

I’ll find out soon... I will start watching the 51 Dark Whimsy Favorites in 80 Days this week and plan on posting the first one to the text group on Saturday. The full schedule with prospective review publication dates will come tomorrow.

Today I’m going to start tinkering with Substack to begin to learn how easy or difficult it is to make it submit to my will! 😁

If it’s really extremely difficult, that might slow down my review schedule, but y’all come before my one Substack follower (who presumably followed me because I subscribed to her newsletter), so if it’s difficult it just means a slower transition. I have 51 movie reviews as a priority!

Which would you prefer for this afternoon: my updated review of the original A Christmas Carol., or a report on what I encounter today on my first foray into Substack publishing?
