Retro Reviews Reference
The fourth line of the opinion block is the POPCAP Line, where I reveal the POPCAP, POP and CAP percentile scores of the reviewed work. The percentile scores, which range from 00 to 99, are the percentage of comparable works that rank below the rated work in the given category.
The emojis that stand in for the three acronyms and the acronym meanings are:
💯 POPCAP: POP and CAP combined (00 to 99)
🍿 POP: Popular Opinion Percentile (00 to 99)
🧢 CAP: Creative Achievement Percentile (00 to 99)
A typical POPCAP line for a work will look like this:
POPCAP 💯86 | 🍿92 🧢61
But it may take some time to gather enough data to report significant percentile scores, so if there is not enough comparison data for a particular work, the POPCAP line will look like this:
POPCAP 💯n/a | 🍿n/a 🧢n/a
I’m expecting it to take a few months at least before I’ve collected enough data to give relevant scores. It’s not my highest priority yet.
Once there’s enough data, the POP will let you know how the general public ranks and responded to the work compared to other works of the same type.
The CAP will measure the creative achievements of the work, compared to other works of the same type. This includes the influence the work has had on its industry, awards won and critical acclaim.
This Rundown will be updated to include more details of component factors and how the percentiles are calculated once enough data has been collected to begin including the percentiles in reviews.
