What's Disappearing From Rick Retro's Realm?
Rick Retro’s Realm, The Realm Report #1: Bye-bye Behind the Scenes. Hello, The Realm Report.
Introducing The Realm Report
Hi everyone!
I’m retiring the Behind the Scenes posts in The Realm section. Behind the scenes information will continue to be shared in The Realm Report, which will also include news, updates, itineraries and other information. I intend for this to be a once-a-week email and post, unless there is absolutely nothing to share with you. 🙂
Creator Info on the Way!
From now on, I will include the names of the producer, screenplay writer and director in the caption of the movie poster that kicks off each review, since I don’t always mention them in the body of the review. The writer of any source material was already included, so only the adaptation writer will be mentioned here. The significant stars of each movie are usually mentioned in the review itself, or, if not, they will at least be mentioned in a photo caption. I will update the older reviews to this standard as time goes by.
Updated Review!
“Scrooge, or, Marley’s Ghost” (1901), which was Retro Review #2 has been re-reviewed and updated to include all the information of our current reviews, such as the Dark Whimsy reading, Overall Content ratings, and Viewpoint analysis. I changed the grade from an uncertain B (B ?) to a top-third B (B ^), giving it a little credit for a lack of objectionable material. That leaves 41 reviews needing to be updated. Yikes! I’d like to try to update four a week to have an end in sight, but that seems impossible when trying to keep giving you new material. We shall see.
New Old Review Posted!
You may have noticed that Retro Review #16, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (1964), from the old text group was finally uploaded to our Substack Realm for the first time. That leaves 27 old reviews still to bring over. This should be something I can do quicker, since there’s less work per review here. Perhaps I can get a few a week added and be done by mid-summer.
Subscriber Count!
We’re up to 20 subscribers now. And I’m really not trying hard to grow that number yet. I still consider this to be the building phase… as I just mentioned, I haven’t yet found the time between creating and delivering promised new reviews to even update this website with all the old reviews previously released only to the select few in our December 2024 text group. It’s a lot of work, but I promise to keep at it! I’m working on other foundational building as well, so once the whole Realm is looking the way I want it to, Shazam! (With apologies to DC.) Then we will have a Grand Opening of sorts and figure out an event or two to welcome the many new subscribers that will join us once I make finding them a higher priority! Big thanks to all of you who are already here, as you bear with me with all of the scaffolding still up and the sound of power tools constantly changing things around!
Do you have friends who would enjoy being part of our community? We don’t have to wait until the Grand Opening. Invite them to join us early!
He’s Ba-ack!
Guess who showed up in another cameo when I was watching E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the review due out tomorrow. Yep, Big Bird. Again. Boy gets around. That makes three cameos for the large yellow avian Muppet, in our current project alone. So I updated the old post “Dark Whimsy Favorites: The Actors and Actresses” to reflect that new information.
A Tweak to the Whimsy Scale
And, in a note that would have fit perfectly with our old Behind the Scenes content, the Whimsy Scale wasn’t taking enough of a hit for adult or controversial content, so I tweaked it a little. The new method can be found here.
This tweak changed the Whimsy reading and overall Dark Whimsy reading in one review:
Being There (1979) from 😎9.0 | 🌚9 🌝9 to 😎8.1 | 🌚9 🌝8
Thanks for your support.
Keep the comments coming!
