Why Should I Subscribe to Retro Movie Reviews?
Is it hard to find something to watch that you haven’t already seen? Do you find that new movies are a little too formulaic? Do you hate that Disney has gone woke? There are a lot of great films in the past that you may have missed. Many of which you could easily stream now. There are classics you probably saw years ago and would probably enjoy revisiting from your older and wiser perspective! Retro Movie Reviews can help you and your family find new favorites among older films and rediscover barely remembered old favorites!
Movie Reviews and More!
Retro Movie Reviews is more than just reviews of older movies. From time to time, Rick Retro will review a film recently released to streaming, especially if it’s a sequel to an older film already reviewed, or an adaptation of a classic literary work. You will also find reviews of TV shows, written fiction, and every now and then something more, like maybe music or comics. Do you want a checklist to find all the movies, TV shows and books that are part of your favorite franchise? Rick Retro’s Roundups fill that bill with chronological listings linked to the corresponding Reviews. And info! Do we have info?!?!?! Each of Rick Retro’s Reviews is packed with ratings and analysis, while still being a fun and sometimes thought-provoking read. And we promise not to spoil anything by revealing plot twists or endings.
Dark Whimsy 😎
Have you heard of Dark Whimsy? Rick Retro likes that genre so much that he gave it a name. He loves works of all genres, but gives a little extra attention to Dark Whimsy. Think scary meets funny, monsters meet music, death getting cheated by clever children, and you’re just beginning to get the idea. Rick Retro’s Dark and Whimsy scales measure the relevant content in every work he reviews, but the bar to be labeled Dark Whimsy is significant and only the Darkest, most Whimsical works qualify as Pure Dark Whimsy. Sign up and explore the Dark Whimsy masters and their classic works!
Not Woke
Let’s face it Hollywood is a bastion of left-wing thought and lately creativity has suffered at the expense of agenda-driven entertainment. Rick Retro won’t go so far as to promise to make reviews great again, but most entertainment critics, whether on Substack or not, write from left-wing viewpoints themselves. Rick Retro writes from a conservative, evangelical Christian point of view. He can use big words to argue philosophy with the best of them, but he’s not an elitist and thinks everyone’s opinion deserves a fair hearing. Most of all, entertainment should be fun, so instead of telling you what your opinion ought to be, he just shares his, and invites you to share yours. He offers content ratings to help parents who might not agree that a particular PG-13 movie is appropriate for their teenagers. If you’re ready to dig deeper into a work, he analyzes the viewpoint of each one he reviews, compared to Judeo-Christian standards. And if you don’t agree with his conservative opinions, that’s OK too. You’re welcome to join our community, so long as you play nice!
All This Can Be Yours!
Subscribe to get full access to all the new posts and full access to all the archives of older posts. Rick Retro usually posts two to three reviews a week, with perhaps a couple of related posts as well. If that’s more email than you want, you can subscribe only to the weekly digest. Then you will get just one email each week, which will summarize all the posts for the week with links to each post. But if you want to be sure to never miss an update, don’t go with just the digest, because isn’t it better to get every new post sent directly to your email inbox? You can also choose to be notified through the Substack app. (They like it if we promote the app. But to be fair, the notifications work really well, so we don’t feel bad for selling out to them just a little.)
